Bihar Orders Removal Of Caste Stickers From Vehicles, Violators May Face ₹2,000 Fine

Patna: In a major move aimed at discouraging caste-based display on public roads, the Bihar Transport Department has directed vehicle owners across the state to remove caste-related stickers, slogans, and identifiers from their vehicles within one month.

According to reports, violators could face fines of up to ₹2,000 under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act if such stickers continue to remain on vehicles after the deadline.

The decision comes amid growing concerns over the increasing use of caste identity stickers on cars, bikes, SUVs, and other private vehicles across Bihar. Many vehicles were reportedly displaying caste titles, community slogans, and identity-based messages on windshields, rear glasses, and number plate areas.

Officials stated that such displays can create unnecessary social tension and are not permitted under vehicle display regulations. Authorities have also warned that action may be taken through traffic monitoring systems and AI-based cameras installed in several areas.

Reports suggest the Transport Department has instructed enforcement teams to begin awareness campaigns before stricter implementation starts after the one-month period.

The move has triggered mixed reactions on social media. While some users supported the decision and said public roads should remain free from caste-based messaging, others argued the government should focus more on broader law-and-order and infrastructure issues.

Several users online also demanded that similar rules should be implemented across India to discourage caste-based divisions in public spaces.

As discussions continue online, Bihar has now become one of the few states to take direct administrative action against caste-related vehicle displays.
